Strategic Partnerships Nonprofit collaboration is essential for the sustainable
redevelopment of disaster-stricken communities. By partnering with established organizations, Rebuilding
Community International leverages its resources and ensures that its
green-building expertise is put to the best use in projects that provide
the greatest benefit to disaster-stricken communities.
A partner in our “green weatherization” pilot program. The program’s goal
is to produce enduring improvement in the quality of life in low-income communities by
advancing economic growth, ecological balance, and social progress. One outcome of the
“green weatherization” program will be a science-based, user-friendly “New Orleans Green
Weatherization Guide” appropriate for New Orleans’ hot, humid climate and historic housing
stock. A partner in our “green weatherization” pilot program and “New Orleans
Green Weatherization Guide.” RCI is providing “energy-savings” information at “Transitional Resource
Fairs,” which are designed to ease FEMA-trailer-community residents’ move to permanent
housing. We're discussing green weatherization, and providing our “Top 10 Ways Renters Can
Slash Utility Bills” guide that describes low-cost, high-payback, resource-efficiency
upgrades that can save renters hundreds of dollars a year in utility bills. The Center for Sustainable Engagement & Development (CSED): RCI is conducting a feasibility study and developing a business plan for a
“green-building enterprise” that make green rebuilding less expensive than conventional
building for homeowners in the Lower Ninth Ward.
RCI is presenting “Green Building Clinics” to help residents rebuild successfully. RCI is helping this site expand the green-building-resource
section of its online resource guide for New Orleanians. RCI exhibited at the University’s “Gentilly Neighborhood Night Out Against
Crime” event. We promoted our "Green Weatherization Pilot Program" and gave away
energy-efficient porch lightbulbs. RCI assisted with the AAE’s “green rebuilding” exhibit at the
2007 New Orleans Home & Garden Show. Built a community-school kitchen to provide daily lunches to the children of the village of Ulla. |
